Introduction
Stéphane Halleux (1972, Chênée, Belgium) is a Belgian sculptor, colourist and modeller. He studied at the École Supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc (Saint- Luke Institute) in Liège. Then he began his career as a colour adviser and scale model designer in the animation industry.
He was extremely fascinated by sculpture and got the idea to assemble varied items to create a crazy universe. Stéphane Halleux uses humour in his work. As an artist, he claims the right to laugh, and therefore he sculpts and denounces the absurdity of life in a cynical way.
Halleux works with inanimate objects and gives them a life of their own, through sculptures. He tries to recreate human feelings, featuring neurotic characters, in which the spectator can recognize himself. His favourite materials are leather, wood, and metal. Stéphane Halleux is a renowned sculptor now.
Tim Johnson, from Dream Works Entertainment, said about him: ‘His sculptures all seem to have come out of an animated universe. I find the quality of their story just incredible. He tells you a rich and complex story, simply through their very own existence.’
