FRED BERVOETS
80 YEARS SPRING EXPO 2022
In his career, Fred Bervoets has known numerous periods and realized several series in a constant line of high intensity and high quality. The current exhibition focuses on Fred’s career. He will be 80 this year.
In the art works you will find, amongst others; the artist’s studio, the place where he puts his own tormented, at times romantic world on canvas or on paper in an expressive style.
Exhibited are large and small works, made in his own technique, which he masterfully developed over the past decades.
This exhibition is a continuation of many exhibitions, especially at Galerie De Zwarte Panter and at Louise Gallery.
In his essay Fred & Peter, Bart De Baere, director of the MuHKA, describes Fred Bervoets as follows: “Just like the work of Bruegel, the art works of Bervoets can be called comprehensive and even panoramic, and these are at the same time rooted in the small scale of the mundane and anecdotal.
It is not based on the antithesis between analysis and synthesis, that what has become classic for us. It is grounded in some more basic human conditions, perception and processing into understanding… The ‘perception’ continues during the artistic realization, simultaneously with the process of understanding. There is barely a millisecond difference, like thunder and lightning almost coincide when lightning strikes here and not five seconds away. That quality continues throughout the entire process. Even when images are updated, it is always into the here and now. Here more black is needed, the moment demands one or more different colors.”
Under the title Antwerp Baroque 2018, a city festival took place in Antwerp that connects the historical Baroque of Peter Paul Rubens with contemporary Baroque. Fred Bervoets was one of the main artists, central to this event. Galerie De Zwarte Panter and Louise Gallery want to attract international attention with numerous exhibitions now and in the past.
