“THE SPINNING WHEEL”…..
It are text-images like these in Peter Kohl’s work that have kept us captivated for years. Louise Gallery is particularly fascinated with his graphic work, which we discovered the first time 7 years ago in Karlsruhe, Germany. It was love at first sight. In 2019, we invited the Austrian Peter for his first solo show at Louise Gallery: “Mein Gott Hat den Längsten Schwanz”. It proved to be a great success.
In all his expressiveness Peter refuses to compromise. Peter’s visual world invites the viewer to dive into it and to explore. What is this about? Little by little you start to understand his rebellious universe. In our opinion, it is one of the missions of art: Waking-Up people! What we discover is never innocuous and certainly not trivial. There is a wonderful ambiguity in his characters and the things they have to say. They often teeter on the brink of provocation or gleefully overstep it. It is his ambitious desire to depict the human comedy through between irony and bitterness, absurdity and extravagance, in a cosmic, polysemic narrative that is open for interpretation, open to fantasy and the imagination. Peter did -amongst others- many art projects and exhibitions in Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands Liechtenstein, Spain and of course in Belgium.
He graduated in philosophy and art and has become well known in the European art world. His work can be found in public and private collections here and abroad.
