WINTER EXPO 2024-2025 – “Giuliano Gaigher’s Art Glass Laboratory”
It is the glass itself that tells the story.
I want to get the most out of the material. I like to give shape to the language of the glass and emphasize its meaning.
Through the play with light and the material I discover messages, which I try to organize and optimize.
In 1987 I opened my studio in the heart of Northern Italy. My “glass laboratory”, where I discovered new techniques again and again. I have never stopped telling my story of the expressive vulnerability of this beautiful material.
I still discover new techniques every day, which I like to combine: Thick, thin, melted, cast, glass powder and combinations with other materials such as wood, stone and metals.
There are endless ways to interpret art with glass. The many techniques brought me over the years to experiment with all kinds of designs. It was a fascinating journey of fusing and mixing, which give the viewer a different view of the play of light and glass. Every day something new is born, something that makes me happy and has changed my consciousness.
Over time, the spiritual came naturally. I discovered the internal and the external of life by working with glass. In fact, my works often have themes such as the crossing over to the afterlife and my life itself, in which aesthetics develop. It stimulates our mind to a more lively, suggestive and symbolic language. There I found the space to create new things with even greater imagination.
I have done many projects during my career:
My work “Almost Melancholy” was exhibited in the museum “Pope Paul VI Art and Spirituality”.
The installation “Signs of Time” was exhibited in the Museum “Verre in Sars-Poteries”, in France,
My work “Vortex” is on display in the Glass Museum Ernsting “Stiftung Alter Hof Herding” in Coesfeld, Germany.
Other works became part of international collections in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Glass sculpting has its roots in the history of Europe and abroad.
It has permeated our artistic identity.
Evidence of it can be found everywhere, which I try to explore in my art.
